The school district is pulling together a work group titled Parent Communication and Visitation. This group will meet several times during the
months of March and April and possibly May to propose a policy on parent communication with teachers/staff and visitation at schools. This work group
is an outgrowth of discussions among staff members to the Governor's Working Conditions Survey.
The group will look at parent decorum, respect due to teachers and staff, classroom visits,  and the impact of parent expectations on teacher
workloads and on instructional time.
School board chair Lisa Stuckey will lead the group, and we are inviting SGC representatives, teachers, principals and Community Alliance (CASS)
representatives to join the group.
We expect to meet on Tuesdays, possibly the first and third Tuesdays of the month; and we will set the time at one of our first meetings.
This group will follow the decision-making process outlined last year. As a result, the draft policy will be shared with all SGCs, PTAs and other
groups for their feedback prior to its presentation/recommendation to the school board.
We are asking each SGC to nominate a parent for the work group. From the members nominated, we expect to establish diversity among the members who
serve. We expect to identify 4 elementary parents, 2 middle school parents and 2 high school parents along with teachers, administrators and
community reps.
Please send to us the name of the parent you recommend to serve on the committee by Feb. 11. In addition to the parent's name, please send his/her
address, phone, email (if available) and race so that we can ensure diversity in the group. Below are those questions.
If you have questions or comments, please contact me or Lisa.
