Seawell Elementary School

Minutes were approved.

Principal?s Report
Ms. Pegg shared the SIP End of Year report and how the review was written.  Members were to review and come back to the next meeting with any
questions. We will be writing a new SIP this year. In mid October we will meet with a member of the school board and someone from Lincoln Center to
discuss our SIP review. By January of this year we will need to turn in our Goals/ Mission for our new SIP.  In March, the remainder of the SIP is
due. SGC can be a parent forum for concerns or ideas about the SIP. We will review the new SIP template next month.


Ms. Pegg listed new faculty members and their jobs. She also reported on employees who left Seawell at the end of 2003-2004 school year and what they
are doing now.

Back to school night is scheduled for 9/13. There will be a new family orientation from 4:50-5:30 followed by a session from 5:30-6:10, PTA meeting
from 6:15-6:45, and a second session from 6:50-7:30. Daycare is provided for school aged children.

Seawell?s population: 532/ projected enrollment 515. We have a larger ELL population this year. ELL teachers are serving our three Pre-K classrooms.

K-3 classrooms can?t go over 23 students any time during the school year.
4-5 are to be at 29 students but a waiver can be used if they exceed these numbers after the first 10 days of schools.

The roof is not finished- roofers are wearing badges for safety.

Ms. Pegg shared the new calendar legislation. Linda Williford will be on the calendar committee.  Utility days are no school days unless being used
for a workday.

We need a parent rep. from SGC for the Curriculum Advisory Committee.

Old Business
Amy Kwiek shared that all of the outside lights were out-not working.  We planned to put in a request for new bulbs. Next, we will assess for
additional needs.
                        


New Business
SGC formally elected Mark Peters and Katherine Worley as co chairs.

Susan will call the police department to ask for their presence on Open House night to increase safety.

The new Gifted Education plan was discussed as well as identification.  There is a gifted education meeting on Oct. 18th in the evening. Pat white is
back half time. Diana Caplow will be subbing one day a week to help fill missing void.
Terry Stern suggested more information about the Literacy Collaborative Framework.

Katherine offered to draw sidewalk chalk lines at the bottom of the parking lot to see if there is room for three lanes at the end.  This was
suggested in an effort to help with traffic.

The Nutrition Policy is being implemented.

Seawell was 98% proficient last year and met high growth goals. We are a school of excellence.

Go and check out the new climbing wall in the gym!

Larry will write a letter to the school board to thank them for second grade assistants.
