Principal?s Report
Big Fall Play Day- was it too late in the year? Most of the October weekends were taken this year by school district events or UNC home games.

Book Fair- it seemed like the teacher lists were shorter this year. Parents and teachers like the option of longer wish lists.

NC  Repost Card- Larry questioned why the teacher turnover rate for Seawell was higher than the district and state. Ms. Pegg stated that teachers
leave mostly due to marriage, starting families, or families relocating. Our average was higher the year we were redistricted due to the need to lose
teachers caused by a smaller student population.

School Improvement Plan- Seawell has a higher English Language Learner population this year, and a slightly lower African American population.
Seawell is 52.4% white and has an average daily attendance rate of 98%. For the strengths and needs portion of the new SIP we noted that Seawell has
been a school of excellence for the past two years and has met all AYP goals. We used data from the teacher working conditions surveys to identify
needs to incorporate into the new SIP. Larry noted that parent volunteers are a strength and Susan agreed. This has been included in the strengths
and needs portion  of the SIP.

Friday, January 14th the SGC reps are invited to join the lead teachers and administration to work on the SIP for the first half of the day.

Elementary schools are supposed to focus on reducing tardies in the new SIP.

We are waiting to find out if Pat White will be able to return full time or not.

On February 15th, the PTA/SGC will sponsor an event at the Sonya Hanes Stone Center. Some students may present, there may be a video to watch.

The school system has had an accounting error in the amount of $400,000

We are still working on the outside lighting issues at Seawell.

What is the water temperature limit for afterschool guidelines to be followed?

The thank you letter was presented to the school board for replacing second grade assistants.

 New Business
SGC Chairs Meeting

Mark shared that schools could request a presentation on new policies if interested. SGC members asked to receive soft copies of draft policies.

The work Place Conditions survey was discussed.

The Gordon Black survey will not be completed this year.

There will be an athletics task force made to discuss funding and other issues.

Field trips- must have educational component, no trips on the last day of school, students can not be omitted for punishment, no fee is allowed for
required trips.

The Superintendent?s Advisory Council is forming a committee to address concerns from the Work place Conditions survey.
.
The school board is planning to form a committee to address parent etiquette.

Recess/PE requirements will be put on the March agenda. Jennifer is on a district committee that will address these needs/concerns.

Tier One- created for highly gifted students who perform at 99% and are at least two years above grade level. Twelve new recommendations have been
made for Tier One by a task force. Mark will send two questions about Tier One from our SGC for clarification.

Work Place Conditions Survey- Larry wanted to know if some people would benefit from time management training. It was also suggested that Seawell use
their results as a recruitment tool due to the positive results. additionally, the SGC wondered if David could put a few snippets from the survey on
our web site?

It was suggested that the PTA put teacher assistant?s names in the PTA directory.
We will meet again on January 14th to work on the SIP.
